This album is a reflection of Chris Meyer’s loop & sample based work in the early 1990s through 2000 when he was a member of Richard Bugg’s Cosmic Debris. Chris would create an environment from looped and layered percussion tracks plus ambiences, and then artists Richard Bugg, Lachlan Westfall, Keith Snyder, Richard Zvonar, Blake Arnold, and Timothy Trujillo would improvise to it in front of a live audience.

Richard Bugg recorded all of the performances from this period to multitrack digital tape. Chris curated his personal favorites of these – focusing on those that best expressed his personal aesthetic of the time – and with Richard’s blessing, edited and overdubbed these tracks to be released under the collaborative name Alias Zone in 2001.

The sampled performances Chris incorporated (all copyright-cleared) include contributions by Bill Laswell, David Torn, Peter Maunu, Steve Stevens, Bashiri Johnson, and others. A PDF of the original six-panel gatefold CD artwork with much more detail about the creation process and contributors is included with the digital album.

Today, Chris is deeply involved in the modular synthesis world, sharing his knowledge with others through LearningModular.com. Beginning in 2021 he will be releasing new material under the name Alias Zone that reflects his most recent solo work and collaborations focused on using modular synths, as well as other instruments.
